the haptic effects of landscape models requires complex data processing and the following CNC machine manufacturing. The
medial enrichment of the then created reliefs is the logical complement to interactive landscape models. For all steps, extensive planning is required to be included occasionally as feasibility studies in the early discussion with potential customers.
Feasibility
study for model of the terrestrial moon
One of the most exotic and exciting task demanded QUOMODO.de 2011 in cooperation with its partner
company Pflug Gomaringen to find ways for the realization of a large model of the terrestrial moon. The framework for this task include the following points:
Search the best currently available data and sources of digital elevation data of the moon
Processing and optimization of these data
Visualization of the potential model
Preliminary planning of the production of a model with a
diameter of 3.5m
Support for the production of test models
Conceptual input for a medial enrichment of this exhibit
Data search +
Visualization
Extra-terrestrial data are the domain of the large space-faring nations. In this respect it is not surprising that
in the global data search finally the appropriate source has been located at NASA.
There data is available from an ongoing moon mission, which aims to generate
3D and other data of the whole moon with the highest detail resolution.

Test models
To better assess the integrity of the data, different test models were CNC machined. The following example shows the Schrödinger crater in the southern polar region of the moon. This enormous impact basin has a real radius of 312 km. It is located on the far side of the moon, so it can not be observed directly. Found in the above map display at the bottom left of center.

Conclusion
The project is under construction and is expected to be completed in 2012.
And because we are gaining momentum, now even the same preparations have begun for an earth model
of an identical size. We will keep you informed.
