On behalf of Pflug Gomaringen data were processed to produce a model of the historic town of the Viking settlement Haithabu near Schleswig, N-Germany. The model is part of the revised exhibition concept carried out by space4, Stuttgart for the Viking Museum Haithabu.
In a first step the digital elevation model of the settlement area had to be optimized for CNC production. Time consuming was the systematic processing of the archeological settlement data for the surface design of the model. The model builder had to place a detailed infrastructure of walls, ditches, roads and port facilities, and more than 2500, partly very small house objects.
